Symbol of a thunderous 2019 comeback for Roland, the new Fantom platform represents the great return of the Japanese manufacturer on the high-end workstations, propelled by new DSPs. So, return winner?

A breathless moment, the high-end workstation market seems to be gaining momentum lately. It must be said that Korg has long made the race alone in mind with the Kronos, cleverly declined since its first introduction, most often in terms of cosmetics or sound bank; It must be said that competition had taken a blow by this tidal wave tide. In parallel, Kurzweil has constantly improved his forte, moving from a stage piano to a powerful workstation (the latest version 4 adds a DX7 engine). Yamaha also had to work hard to finalize the Montage, more recent, but long confined to the stage of synth (the recent version V3 finally adds a sequencer worthy of the name). As for Roland, the brand seemed mostly focused on the Aira and Boutique series in recent times. But recently, the manufacturer has announced a plethora of novelties for fans of electronic music: new groove boxes (MC), new modeling synths (Jupiter-X) and new workstations (Fantom). In short, there is something for everyone. We are testing the Fantom, the successor of the 2008 Fantom G series. This is a new generation of workstations, the most powerful ever built by Roland, powered by a scalable home-grown Quad-Core DSP system. It allows the brand to claim belonging to the family of large workstations, which we baptize for the occasion the Big KRYK. Do other members have to behave well?
